Multi-Media Project on Iraqi Refugees

Earlier last month, I had the privilege to participate in a panel discussion that focused on how the arts can be used to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees. Joining me in the panel where the Iraqi Voices Amplification Project (IVAP) artists Michael Jordan and Kim Schultz, in addition to Charity Tooze.  Charity is a freelance journalist and academic focusing on politics in the Middle East.

Not to my surprise—and despite the fact that she did not participate with IVAP—Charity’s experiences with Iraqi refugees sadly mirrored those IVAP encountered in our last trip to Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. She is currently producing a multi-media project about the plight of the 2.2 million externally displaced Iraqi refugees, which was recently featured in Worldfocus and can be seen below or on the IVAP website.

It is lamentable in my opinion, that projects such as IVAP and Charity’s—which raise awareness of this conflict—are born out of the dire and desperate situations faced by the displaced Iraqis who seem to have been forgotten by the world.
